Seeing God in Tough Times

I remember talking to a friend of mine once. Very hard things had happened to her. Things that made me wilt in pain just hearing them.

“Just remember–“I said–“God does everything for a reason.”

“Yeah,” she said sadly. “I used to think that, too.”

Like my friend, are you having trouble trusting that everything happens for a reason? Are you having a hard time trusting God? Are you in so much pain that you don’t think God is working through it?

One thing I noticed with people going through trauma is that Satan uses pain to take us away from God. He whispers things into our ears (God doesn’t care!

If God was good, why would he let this happen?

He hasn’t helped you before. Why would he do it now?

He has no idea what this is like.

He diverts us from seeking God and directs us to worldly pleasures that derive us of the comfort we need.

Is this true of you? Does Satan pull you away from God using one of these ways?

If you are in a situation where you stopped believing that God does things for a purpose, like He said in the Scriptures, are you surrounding yourself with Christian friends (not virtual ones), going to church and Bible studies, reading the Bible, and actively pursuing a holy life?

Before saying that you know more than God about what pain is, and that He doesn’t have a purpose for everything He allows, remember that He also suffered death on a cross for your sins. That would be hours of painful torture. Throughout his life, He always made the hard choice.

So assuming that we have gone through more and know more about what pain really is is prideful and selfish. I’m not condemning anyone, but where do you think that this subtle drift in one’s way of thinking is accountable to? What I mentioned earlier about the doubts.

If you are going through a hard time, now more than ever is the time to be closer to God. If we don’t do all we can to prioritize God and make His Word our shield, Satan will find a way to take you away from Him.

And that will make you sadder even than you are now.

“…The righteous cry, and the LORD hears And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.…”
