Novel Writing: You Can Do It!

If you, like me, have a novel idea just waiting to be told, you’ll be no stranger to the difficulties involved in transforming this from a half baked idea to an actual, full fledged book.

The hardest part of it might be this: Writing.

Who knew? Just jotting words from your brain to the page can be so hard.

So, how does one stay on track with their novel idea? Here’s something I’m trying.

Ten Minutes Of Writing A Day.

That’s right. 10 Minutes. You can write about anything, so long as it’s within your book. How can it help you?

-More inspiration: Maya Angelou, again, testifies to the fact: You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. If your writing is getting stagnant, then do this: write.

Freedom: When you stop feeling constrained by plot details and just write what inspires you, you’ll enjoy writing more, and, thus, write more.

-Better Writing: Let’s face it, we’d all rather have quality than quantity. Who cares if you wrote 50,200 (painstakingly boring) words if no one wants to read them? When you’re inspired, so are your writers. Love what you write so your readers will love what they read.

-Progress: Think about it. “If you write one page a day, you’ll have 365 pages by the end of a year,” says John Warwick Montgomery, author of over 50 books. Why stress? Better to keep up a consistent (if small) daily writing time than sweat over fifty pages, then dump writing for a month.

Stay inspired!
